2008 saw the Nintendo Wii become the hottest seller of the year, even though it was first released back in 2006. Over 13 million of the consoles were sold by the time Christmas 2008 came around. It became hugely popular due to the interaction of the games, which meant you could stand up and play the games, rather than sitting down. Many of the sports games ruled family homes, as family members competed against each other.
It didn’t go all as planned for Nintendo though, as one of the first software updates actually caused many units to fail and be unusable. But this was corrected by Nintendo and they continue to be a the forefront of the gaming world.
